In the 18th century, fields were fenced to keep livestock out, not in, as most livestock was free-ranging.

Trash and Recycling

Montgomery County Recycling Event Flyers for 2021 are expected to be available in February, 2021.

Household Hazardous Waste

In addition to the Montco Household Hazardous Waste flyer, I have attached the five county Regional SEPA HHW flyer.  Montco residents are welcome at the HHW events in Bucks, Chester, and Delaware Counties and Philadelphia at no charge.  Residents have 29 collection event opportunities for HHW from April through November.  There is no drop off location for HHW outside of the County events.

Tires must legally be recycled and tire retailers will accept used tires for a recycling fee of approximately $3 per tire. Two free tire collection events will be held in 2020 specifically to discourage illegal dumping and the spread of mosquito borne illnesses.

Electronic Waste

Curb My Clutter - Montgomery County has partnered with Curb My Clutter, a convenient service that picks up clothing and electronics at your doorstep.  The service is free for all clothing and most electronics.  For more information about scheduling a pick up, convenience fees and earning rewards  visit

Montgomery County continues to be unable to hold electronics collection events, as the PA Covered Device Recycling Act still has not been amended.  Although state law requires electronics manufacturers to offer recycling opportunities for TVs and computers, those manufacturers are not sponsoring recycling collections in the Southeastern PA region.  A summary of the situation and a list of drop off sites is available at prevent dumping, municipalities should consider sponsoring e-waste collections for your residents.  The contact information for two local event vendors is below.

Document Shredding

We do not have any countywide document shredding events planned at this point, but again encourage municipalities to sponsor an event for your residents.  These are popular, as almost everyone has files that need to be shredded, and the County cannot provide events to cover all municipalities.  The contact information for two local shred vendors is below.

Vendors are neither endorsed nor recommended by Montgomery County and other vendors may be in the market.
