The Public Works Department maintains the township roads and parks in New Hanover Township. 80 miles of roads to maintain, the 10-member department stays busy keeping up with road repair, mowing and day to day issues, as well as being on-call 24/7 when snow and bad weather hit.

Because most of the work occurs outdoors, the Public Works Department’s priorities change with the seasons.

Tree trimming

Maintenance of signals, traffic signs, pavement markings and drainage structures are all part of the department’s annual maintenance plan. Other responsibilities include the maintenance of storm drain systems, the township’s vehicle and equipment fleet and all municipal buildings and grounds. Road improvement projects are completed during the summer months and include vegetation control.
